Matarbari 1200 MW Coal Power Plant (Phase-II), also known as Matarbari USC Coal Power Plant (Phase-2), is a proposed Ultra-supercritical (USC) thermal power plant to be situated in Dhalghata and Matarbari Union on Matarbari Island under Moheshkhali Upazila in Cox’s Bazar District of Bangladesh (Location: 21.7029, 91.8795). It was proposed by Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL), a State-owned Enterprise (SOE) under the Power Division, as a State-owned Power Plant (SOPP) for 25 years. The power plant is to start commercial operation in July 2024 but the Government of Japan (GOJ) canceled the external credit for the power plant on June 2022. Both the Japanese and Bangladesh Governments are seeking other sources of loans with a major uncertainty.


Capacity

The installed capacity of the power plant was to be 1200 MW.
