Bosila 108 MW Furnace Oil Power Plant, also known as CLC Keraniganj Power Plant, is a reciprocating engine-based power plant situated in Washpur of Bosila under Keraniganj Upazila in Dhaka District of Bangladesh (Location: 23.7560, 90.3749). It is sponsored by CLC Power Company Limited (CLCPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Maisha Group, as a private Independent Power Producer (IPP) for 15 years. The sponsor declared its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on 22 February 2017 and, as per schedule, the power plant will retire on 21 February 2032.


Capacity

The power plant's installed (gross) and derated (net) capacity is 109 MW and 108 MW respectively.


Context

The Bosila 108 MW Furnace Oil Power Plant, is situated in Washpur of Bosila under Keraniganj Upazila in Dhaka District, Bangladesh. It is owned by CLC Power Co Ltd, a subsidiary of the Maisha Group, Unit 1 of this power facility boasts an installed capacity of 109 MW, primarily utilizing heavy fuel oil through internal combustion technology. Notably, the power plant operates with a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system, producing high-efficiency electricity and thermal energy. In the plans for the power sector, the Government emphasizes Dhaka as the city alone consumes 46% of electricity generated in Bangladesh (FE 2021). The plant, declared operational in 2017, is a crucial component in meeting the energy demands of the bustling capital, reflecting the dynamic interplay between urbanization, economic activities, and the nation's broader energy landscape.


Contractors

Magnus Power Private Limited (MPPL), the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, has played a pivotal role in the project's development. The power plant's generating set, a critical component of its operations, has been supplied by the esteemed German company MAN Diesel & Turbo. This collaboration attests to the global nature of the project, with MAN Diesel & Turbo contributing their engineering prowess to the facility located in Bosila, Washpur, Keraniganj, Dhaka.


Fuel Supply

Summit Oil & Shipping Company Limited (SOSCL), a subsidiary of the Summit Group, plays a crucial role in the operational dynamics of the Bosila 108 MW Furnace Oil Power Plant. SOSCL is responsible for providing the Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) required to fuel the power plant. (SOSCL 2022)
